Sometimes it's something as simple as a song that completely changes your perspective on things. I suggest keeping a journal of lyrics you find interesting; anything that strikes a chord with you. When you're stuck in a rut, creative, emotionally, or otherwise, reflecting on the words of a particular song may be useful. Be open-minded in your selection: a song that does nothing for you musically can be very empowering lyrically. Separate the words from the genre. See them as a piece of poetic expression.

this kinda reminds me of bright eyes; do you listen to them? i definitely agree with separating the words...conor oberst (from BE) has been in so many bands over the years & i'm not really into folk music, which is what he's been doing latley, but he's a genius at writing lyrics!
